Repertoire Workshops for Adults and Children

If you or your child would like to dance in a full-length ballet either with us or any other company, it would be a good idea to take part in a repertoire workshop. Two sets of workshops will take place next week - one for adults in Manchester and the other for children in London.

Adults' Workshop
Adults will get a chance to learn La Bayadère at the Dancehouse Theatre on Oxford Road on 14 April 2018 between 10:00 and 16:00 for £75.  Jane Tucker of Northern Ballet Academy will teach intermediate and advance students and Martin Dutton of The Hammond will teach beginners and pre-intermediates.

If anybody needs inspiration, here is the entry into the kingdom of the Shades by the Dutch National Ballet whose production of La Bayadère is probably the finest in the world.

Jane is an inspiring teacher. I move heaven and earth to attend her Wednesday night classes in Leeds.  I also attended an intensive summer workshop in 2016 when she taught  La Bayadère (see Jane Lambert La Bayadère Intensive Day 1: There's Life in the Old Girl Yet 16 Aug 2016 Terpsichore, La Bayadere Intensive Day 2: Idols and Disembodied Shades 17 Aug 2016 Terpsichore and La Bayadere Intensive Day 3: No Snakes 17 Aug 2016 Terpsichore).

Martin is good too.  I enjoyed his one day Nutcracker intensive just before Christmas (see Jane Lambert KNT Nutcracker Intensive 21 Dec 2017 Terpsichore) and a special class that he gave to our pre-intermediate class on 21 Feb 2017 (see Jane Lambert "And what a class we had" 22 Feb 2017 Terpsichore).

If you want to attend the Manchester intensive call Karen Sant on 07783 103 037 or contact her through Facebook.

If you don't know Manchester, the Dancehouse Theatre is very close to Oxford Road station. There is an NCP car park in Chester Street literally just round the corner from the theatre and special rates apply on Saturdays. For visitors who need to stay the night, there is a Holiday Inn about 100 yards from the Dancehouse and an Ibis a quarter of a mile away

Children's Workshop
If we manage to launch Powehouse Ballet we shall almost certainly do The Nutcracker sooner or later in which case we shall need a Clara. Danceworks Ballet Academy will teach Clara's role to children between the ages of 7 and 11 who attend ballet classes from 10:00 to 12:00 on 9, 10 and 11 April 2018 for £40.

Danceworks Ballet Academy is a non-residential ballet school for children and young persons in central London.  Every year pupils at the Academy present a show,  Here is an extract from their performance of The Nutcracker:

The Academy is located in Danceworks# studio at 16 Balderton Street which is almost opposite Selfridges. The nearest underground station is Bond Street.  I have, of course, no personal experience of the Academy but I have attended an adult ballet class at Danceworks and enjoyed it very much (see Jane Lambert Hendrick's Class at Danceworks 19 Jan 2016 Terpschore).

If your little one wants to learn Clara's role, email Katie at balletschool@danceworks.net to reserve her place.

As the class lasts only 2 hours it is possible to get down to London and back in the same day. Indeed, you can make a day of it and maybe show her the sights or perhaps take her to a matinee.  If you are coming from Yorkshire check out Grand Central and Hull Trains as well as Virgin and East Midlands Trains.  There appears to be rather less competition on the West Coast but it is worth checking out Virgin's offers.

Future Repertoire Workshops
If I can get some sponsorship or grant funding for the company I should like to arrange a residential intensive during the summer in an area of outstanding natural beauty such as the West of Scotland or Cornwall, I shall be exploring both possibilities over the next few weeks and will keep readers posted.
