Since our first class in Huddersfield on 26 May 2018, your committee have been exchanging information on possible venues for the next ones and ideas about how to advance your company.
We will suggest some venues and dates in the next few days. Ideally we would like to hold classes and events in different parts of the region. If we do everything in the same place, those from the other parts might feel excluded and could lose interest.
Staging ballets and training our dancers will not come cheap. Contributions from those who attend class or expressed interest will take us only so far. We therefore need to recruit more dancers to increase our subscription base. But above all we need to raise more money through grants, sponsorship and our own commercial activities. Even though we may become a charity or community interest company we shall need a business plan covering such matters as business format, raising capital, income and expenditure and so on.
These are complex and vital issues that we have to get right. We need to do a lot of reading, speak to a lot of people and acquire many new skills. If we appear to be quiet for a while it does not mean that nothing is happening.
- 9 and 10 June 2018 Sara Packham Theatre School will perform Cinderella at Bingley Arts Centre. Elaine Berrill will be in the show.
- 15 June 2018 The University of Huddersfield will hold its Graduate Costume Show at the Lawrence Batley Theatre in Huddersfield, Amelia Sierevogel will display her original costume for The Firebird there, Tickets are selling fast but some are still available.
- 16 June 2018 Studio 49 will perform Querencia at the Victoria, Theatre in Halifax. Danielle Claire is in that show.
Also, if you want a really good class on the weekends when we are not holding a company class you may be interested in KNT Danceworks intermediate level class at the Dancehouse in Manchester between 15:00 and 17:00 every Saturday. Rachael Paines and I attend KNT regularly and Wendy McDermott and Amelia Sierevogel also go there from time to time. Several excellent dancers at KNT have expressed interest in our company so this will be an opportunity to get to know them. Two of its teachers, Karen Sant and Mark Hindley have offered to help us. The Dancehouse is two minutes walk from Oxford Road station and is literally round the corner from the NCP car park in Chester Street. You can stay for 90 minutes for £7.50 or 2 hours for £10.00.
