"Morning!"

After the first rehearsal

We have been invited to dance at the 10th anniversary gala of Dance Studio Leeds which is our home in Yorkshire. There will be two performances at Leeds City College before a paying audience on 12 Oct 2019. We shall be raising money for St Gemma's Hospice in Leeds.

We shall contribute Morning which Yvonne Charlton created for her students in IJsselstein in the Netherlands. She taught us the choreography in an intensive workshop last February.  Fiona Noonan, who was our guest ballet mistress in January and March, has kindly agreed to be our rehearsal director and ballet mistress for this project. As she trained at the Queensland Ballet Academy in Brisbane and began her career with the Queensland Ballet, we could not be in better hands. They take ballet as seriously in Australia as they take every other physical activity. Those who attended her company classes in January and March know that Fiona takes ballet particularly seriously.

Fiona's first four rehearsals will take place at the following venues on the following dates and times:

Fiona will suggest some more dates in September and October.  Yvonne will return to the UK on 21 and 22 Sept to give us another intensive workshop like the one she gave us in February.

For those of you who do not know Huddersfield, the Sports Centre is in the students union two floors down from the main entrance.  If you come by car, park in the Kingsgate or Market Hall car parks. I am sorry to say that our local authority charges for street parking on Sundays but the municipal car parks are not too expensive.  If you come by public transport allow yourself a good 10 minutes to walk over from the rail or bus stations.

Compared to some of the places where we have had to train, the University Sports Centre is luxurious. There are spacious changing rooms for ladies and gents with private cubicles, showers and hair dryers. The dance studio has a good sprung floor. There are no fixed bars but there are plenty of travelling barres.

If you fancy a spot of lunch after the rehearsal there is no shortage of eateries in the Kingsgate Centre or elsewhere in our town.

I live very close to Huddersfield and will be available to rescue anyone who finds him or herself up a gum tree.
