Register for Jane Tucker's "Nutcracker Intensive"
In 2015 KNT invited Jane Tucker of Northern Ballet Academy to run a three-day workshop on Swan Lake. I attended that course. It was not easy but it was one of the most worthwhile things I have ever done as an amateur ballet student. I learnt more about Swan Lake in those three days than I had from a lifetime of theatre-going and review reading.
That intensive encouraged me to set up Powerhouse Ballet. Ballet is a great form of exercise but it belongs to the theatre. Unless you feel the heat of the lights and feel the vibrations from the speakers as a living, breathing and paying audience focuses on you, you really don't know what it is like to be a dancer. Truly, it is a thrilling experience and you exit the stage with a great sense of personal achievement.
We are working towards our first mixed bill which will include Waltz of the Flowers in the programme. This is not an easy piece according to one of the leading dancers of one of the world's great ballet companies who performed it in last Christmas's The Nutcracker and the Mouse King for one of the world's greatest ballet companies but in Jane Tucker, we have a great teacher. This is what to expect. Turn up at 12:00 with your pilates mat or towel for some floor exercises. Jane will then give us a thorough barre and centre exercises. We will then do three hours of rehearsals to learn the piece until we know it perfectly. Finally, we will cool down with some more floor exercises.
