In Rachel Hickey and Her Company12 June 2025, Terpsichore. I announced that Rachel Hickey of the Czech National Ballet had kindly agreed to give Powerhouse Ballet a masterclass from 14:00 to 16:00 on Sunday, 20 July 2025, at KNT Danceworks.  Tickets for the class are now on offer and can be obtained from the "Masterclass with Rachel Hickey" page of the Trybooking website.   This event is sponsored by NIPC Law, so attendees will not be charged for taking part in this class.   However, allocation is strictly on a first-come, first-served basis.  The registration page did not open until 23:00 last night, but we have already disposed of more than half of the available tickets.

As I wrote in Rachel Hickey and her Company, the Czech National Ballet was founded in 1883.  It has some 75 dancers from 19 countries and offers a varied repertoire from La Sylphide to Beats Per MinuteSince joining the company, Rachel has danced in Ashton's La Fille mal gardée, Jean-Christophe Maillot's Cinderella, Marius Petipa's Swan Lake, John Cranko's Onegin and Romeo and Juliet, Marcia Haydée's The Sleeping Beauty and many other works.

Rachel was born and went to school in Manchester. She trained at Elmhurst Ballet School and took a BA in Professional Practice in the Arts from Middlesex University.   After graduating from Elmhurst, she joined the Moravian Theatre ballet company at Olomouc, where she rose to soloist, dancing such important roles as Myrtha in Giselle and Gamzatti in La Bayadère.   She joined the Czech National Ballet in 2022.

Rachel was introduced to us by Emily Joy Smith, who gave us a wonderful company class and choreographed Elysian Mysteries, our contribution to Dance Studio Leeds's Celebration of Dance in 2024.  We are very grateful to Emily for this introduction and her continued interest in and support for our company.  We are also very grateful to Karen Lester Sant and her studio for hosting Rachel's class on 20 July.
