Our next company class with be very special for two reasons.

It will be our first class in Liverpool which has contributed some of the greatest names in the performing arts including dance.  It will take place at Z Studios in Liverpool's Performing Arts College.  Z Studios supplies dancers for TV, music videos, film, cabaret, promotional tours and many other events as you can see from its "About" page.

To make the day particularly special we have two top notch teachers.   Mark Hindle who gave us an excellent class in Manchester on 30 June 2018 (see Nothing Second Class About Our Second Class 30 June 2018) will put us through our paces for the first 90 minutes.  Mark is very thorough, very professional and has an eye for detail that is second to none.  He gives a lot of valuable corrections.  Mark has recently danced in the Dutch production of The Lion King in The Hague which played to full houses (I know because I tried to buy tickets) for months and months.  I am reliably informed by those who saw the show that it was a great success.

By coincidence we have another connection with the Netherlands.   Immediately after Mark's class, we shall welcome Yvonne Charlton from the Jos Dolstra Institute of Dance and Movement at IJsselstein who will give us a 60 minute masterclass.   Yvonne has many years experience of teaching students of all ages from young children to adults  and at all levels of ability and experience from absolute beginners to aspiring professionals.  She works closely with the outreach departments of the Dutch National Ballet and members of the company to present workshops based on the company's repertoire to dance students.

Yvonne has created her own versions of The Nutcracker  and Peter and the Wolf as well as original works for her students and she plans to teach at least one of those works to us.   After 90 minutes with Mark we should be fired up and ready for Yvonne's repertoire.  Although there is a common language of ballet, styles of dancing and teaching vary considerably from country to country.  With giants like Van Dantzig and Van Manen and companies like the Dutch National Ballet and Nederlands Dans Theater, the Netherlands is particularly prestigious and influential.  This is a very rare opportunity to learn from someone who has trained and worked with the best in her country.

The last 30 minutes will be taken up with a rehearsal of the ballet that Terry Etheridge plans to create for us in Leeds on 16 Sept.  Our ballet mistress, Beverley Willsmer, will conduct the rehearsal.  Beverley danced with Terry in the London Festival Ballet and has worked with him on several other occasions.   It will be very interesting to watch her at work.

Z Studios are located at 42 Devon Street which is half a mile from Lime Street station.  There are frequent trains from Leeds, Manchester and all other parts of the North and Midlands.   The 14, 17, 19 and 21 busses run from Queen Square bus station to Gildart Street which is the nearest stop for the studios.  There are a number of car parks near the studios and the journey from the M62 takes no more than 15 to 20 minutes.

Admission to the class is free but you will have to register.   You can do that by clicking the button below.
